Ducati's iconic naked bike, the Monster gets a modern makeover with new V2 engine and refined styling.
The Monster continues to be many riders' introduction to the Ducati brand, a role it's played successfully for over 30 years.
Ducati has recently unveiled the fifth generation of the bike that saved the brand, the legendary Monster, and the 2026 model stays true to the original's "everything you need, nothing more" philosophy while embracing some modern technology to keep things practical and relevant.

What's New for 2026
The biggest change is Ducati's new V2 engine with IVT (Intake Variable Timing). This 890cc twin produces 111 horsepower at 9,000 rpm and delivers over 80% of its torque between 4,000-10,000 rpm, which should make it responsive across the rev range. Shall let you know when we test one.
Key improvements:
- Lighter: 175kg total weight, 4kg less than the previous model
- Lower seat: 815mm height
- Extended service intervals: 45,000km between valve clearance checks
- Modern electronics: Four riding modes, cornering ABS, traction control, wheelie control
- Updated styling: Refined tank design with LED headlight featuring Ducati's signature double 'C' shape

Classic Monster DNA
The new Monster retains the distinctive elements that made the original special. The bison-back tank, which has always been a distinctive feature of the Borgo Panigale naked bike, has been redesigned to maintain the slimness of the current Monster while restoring the muscularity typical of the Monster and incorporating the front air intakes introduced with the second generation.
The trellis frame and single-seat design keep the classic Monster silhouette intact, while the LED headlight features Ducati's signature double 'C' shape with side cuts that recall the Panigale V4.
Showa provides the 43mm upside-down fork and rear monoshock, while Brembo handles braking duties with dual 320mm front discs. Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV tires in 120/70 and 180/55 sizes complete the package. So basically, great shocks, excellent brakes and really sticky tyres to go with that new engine which should result in a bike that cranks up the grin factor.
Riding Modes for Every Situation
Four riding modes adapt the Monster's character to different conditions:
- Sport: Full power and aggressive settings for spirited riding
- Road: Balanced performance for everyday use
- Urban: Gentler power delivery for city riding
- Wet: Optimised traction and ABS settings for slippery conditions
The 5-inch TFT display is Ducati Multimedia System-ready and includes turn-by-turn navigation capability.
The 2026 Monster is due to arrive in Australian dealers in April 2026, available in Ducati Red (obviously) and Iceberg White (why would you bother). Two versions will be offered: the standard Monster and Monster+, which includes a passenger seat cover and cowl.
Coming to Biker Torque
We're excited about the new Monster 2026 and are keen to get our hands on one for a proper test ride and review. The combination of the new V2 engine, reduced weight, and refined styling has us intrigued, especially how it compares to previous Monster we've tested.
Keep an eye on our YouTube channel for the full review. We'll put it through its paces on both city streets and twisty mountain roads to see if this fifth generation lives up to the Monster legacy.
