BMW vs Ducati: The Track Day Choice You've Always Wanted

Starting January 1st, 2026, MEGA (Motorcycling Events Group Australia) is adding Ducati Panigale V4S motorcycles to their hire fleet alongside the existing BMW S 1000 RR lineup. For track day enthusiasts, this means a genuine opportunity to compare two of the world's premier superbikes back-to-back.

The Setup

The BMW S 1000 RR has been MEGA's go-to hire bike for years. It's earned its reputation as a seriously capable, confidence-inspiring machine that works really well for riders of varying experience levels. German engineering with plenty of electronic assistance to keep things manageable, should you want it.

Now the Ducati Panigale V4S joins the fleet. Italian performance wrapped in distinctive styling. It's a different approach to the same goal: getting you around Phillip Island or Sydney Motorsport Park as quickly and safely as possible.

What's On Offer

Both bikes will be available at MEGA Ride Days at Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit and Sydney Motorsport Park. All hire bikes, BMW and Ducati will be fitted exclusively with Pirelli tyres, keeping things consistent across the fleet.

Steve Brouggy, MEGA's Managing Director, sees it as a significant step forward: "To be able to provide the two premium brands of motorcycles on the planet at the two premier circuits in Australia, all fitted with tyres from the leading tyre brand around the globe, is nothing short of a dream come true."

Alpinestars continues as the provider of all riding apparel at both venues.

The Real Appeal

This is the kind of opportunity that usually requires either a press pass, an extremely forgiving bank manager, or a partner who's stopped asking questions about your weekend plans.  Most riders will never get the chance to properly compare these machines in their intended environment. MEGA's partnership with Ducati and continued relationship with BMW Motorrad changes that.

Same track. Same tyres. Same day if you want. The only variables that matter are you and which bike suits your style better.

Whether the BMW's precision or the Ducati's character works for you, that’s something you'll need to figure out for yourself. At least now you can.
