Yamaha MT-09 Review: The Triple That Ticks Every Box (Almost)

The Yamaha MT-09 represents everything that's brilliant about modern naked bikes. A superb 890cc triple engine, excellent electronics, and handling that rewards confidence while remaining accessible to riders of all skill levels. This is the bike that proves triples might just be the perfect balance between the low-end grunt of twins and the top-end rush of inline fours.

That liquid-cooled four-valve triple delivers its power with remarkable smoothness, especially considering it's a 45-year-old design philosophy executed with modern precision. The quick shifter is genuinely excellent – smooth as silk both up and down the box with those helpful arrows telling you exactly when to shift. The Sixaxis IMU brings lean-sensitive electronics including Yamaha's back slip regulator that stabilizes the bike under heavy braking.

The riding position strikes an excellent balance – sporty enough to feel engaging but not so aggressive that it punishes you on longer rides. Those dual 298mm Brembo discs provide excellent stopping power with great feel through the lever, while the fully adjustable KYB suspension can be tailored to your preferences.

At $17,390, the MT-09 represents solid value in the naked bike segment, especially when you consider the comprehensive electronics package and that sublime engine character. The angular styling might not appeal to everyone, but there's no denying the substance beneath those aggressive lines.
