BMW R12 NineT on side of road with storm clouds in the sky

BMW R12 is not the bike I was hoping for.

The BMW R12 takes a refreshingly simple approach to modern motorcycling, stripping away the complexity while keeping the soul intact. This air and oil-cooled 1170cc boxer produces 95 horsepower and 110Nm of torque with that distinctive character that makes every ride feel special, proving that sometimes the best motorcycles are the ones that don't try too hard.

The styling divides opinion with its 1980s-inspired tank shape and sparkly silver paint, but the ergonomics work perfectly for relaxed cruising. The low 754mm seat height and well-positioned handlebars create a comfortable riding position that works for hours of touring. Rock and Roll rider modes add personality, though the quick shifter feels typical BMW boxer clunky in lower gears.

Option 719 parts elevate the package with high-grade aluminium components, spoked tubeless wheels with right-angled valve stems, and premium finishes. The rear suspension runs firm for a cruiser, while those bar-end mirrors look great.

Starting from the base model, the R12 offers genuine BMW heritage with modern reliability, proving that character doesn't require complexity.
