A very big boxer - The BMW R18 Transcontinental
Share
BMW has dominated the adventure touring segment in the market for years with GS series. Now they are coming after the touring cruiser segment with the epic R18 Transcontinental.
It's a big bike at 427kgs but it handles brilliantly, has bucket loads of character with the 1802cc big boxer engine that puts out 91 BHP at 4750 rpm and 158 nm of torque at 3000 rpm.
In true BMW style it's very, very refined. It has a really good suite of electronics with a massive 10.25" TFT, 3 riding modes, automatic stability control, drag torque control, cruise control, heated grips and a heated seat. It also has an LED headlight and rear lights that are integrated into the cases.
I was lucky enough to spend a couple of weeks with the BMW R18 Transcontinental and it didn't fail to impress. It's comfortable, has plenty of storage for a weekend away and just eats up the kms.
